Hospital for men as well as for women. It is more suitable
than the General Civil Hospital for Europans and there is
now sufficicnt accommodation. To cope with the increased
number of patients which this will cntail provision has been
mado for two more Nursing Sistors. Probationor nurses have
boon increased by six posts. In time it is hoped that these
Chinese nurses will be able to take the place of Europoans,
and it is considered desirable that as many as possible
should be trained.
Under other charges subhead 14- 'Fuel and Light'
has been increased by $2,500. Previously this vote was
under estimated. Two of the votes of the Bacteriological
Institute have been increased in order to meet the growing
demand for vaccines and scra. The sale of these is of
course a source of revenue to Government.
Head 20 Sanitary Department.
The scavonging at Abordeon, Aplichau, Stanley and Tytam which is at prosent donc by a contractor is to be done departmentally on the expiration of the present contract at the end of this year. It is anticipated that the work will be much more efficiently done. Provision has been mado for the extra staff required. which will cost $3,856
next year.

reasons boon cut down to $1,000. Motor lorries are proving
most successful, and more economical than bullock-carts.
